FAQ

This page is a Work in Progress

General

Why do some voicebanks have commercial licenses available for specific avatars and others don't?
I do not wish to get monetary income from certain designs, as they are made with love from certain fandoms.

Why do you voice all of your UTAUs?
I don't voice them all, but I do voice the majority. Due to past experiences, I prefer to have control over the voicebanks' pronunciation... and as well I don't have to worry about delivery issues.
For voicebanks under my projects, you will find a better explanation in their pages. Really!

Is there a separation between the character and the voice?
It depends. Some voicebanks or appends are attached to different characters or designs. In any case, that should be specified in the ToyHouse or Wiki Profiles.

The new color palette reminds me to your old project, NaiveDesla.
It's intentional! I tried several other stuff, but I was never truly satisfied, so I went with something that brings comfort.

About your other projects... why so many?
(MindLess, AZOA & LÍDEM, Nihilium Wave, HaretsuLoids, CHROMOID Project)
Funnily enough, the ammount of projects I manage were even more, so I "grouped" them. All of them were originally under NaiveDesla, but since it was hard to manage, I took that project down (sites are still active as an archive, though!) and started to manage things on my own. The only "group" structure that remains is Nihilium Wave.♦ MindLess: These UTAUs are all under the same story and universe, though some are more centered in their own stories.
♦ AZOA & LÍDEM: I'm sure you will find it quite shocking to have, specifically, two UTAUs so separate from everything else. They're a dedicated project, with specific Terms of Use and development. A project made out of pure love, not connected to my other projects.
♦ Nihilium Wave: This one is harder to explain. To keep it short, I am responsible for this group.
♦ HaretsuLoids: A sub-group inside Nihilium Wave. The team is sightly different. I am still involved.
♦ CHROMOID Project: Separate from the other projects, but made in collaboration with Nihilium Wave. Originally created as a love letter for CVfest. The voicebanks are private, but the project includes a Wiki and some other tools.
This project is now under co-ownership between Nihilium Wave and Fractured Hope Co.

About your projects and affiliates...
You can find detailed, in-depth explanations at each project's main page. This is my personal UTAU site, where most of the things are voiced, produced and made by myself for myself. If these things are public, it's because I love my creations or I find them useful on the long run.

Can I get an overview of the voicebanks you did not voice? Who voiced them?
Most of the time you can find the credits under the respective pages.
In some specific cases, the owners of the UTAUs abandoned the community short after giving me the voices. For their wishes, I didn't keep their name around. (If they wish to get their name again in the credits, I'm always open for communication. But I wish to clarify I'm not going to go after anyone if they don't want to talk first.)
♦ SC-122-Sonia, EC-49-Edgar, OX-10, X-Hitomu, Lykos: Some of them I have a shared ownership, and one of them was renamed. But the VP is the same.
♦ AZOA & LÍDEM: Their VP are different for each one, but the ownership is fully mine. I pay the VP.
♦ AC, Caché Völatta, iXel, Megumi Haretsu, Liam Haretsu: Quite a hard topic to describe, as you will obviously hear something that is too familiar in their voices.

Wait, I still have some questions about Nihilium Wave!
I'm sure there's a better explanation in their site's FAQ.
Really.
Go check it out. There's probably a way better reasoning that I can personally explain.

Basic Usage

How should I write each UTAU's name?
In the Terms of Use file of each Voicebank, you should find a list of names you can adress the voicebank as.

Do I have to use OpenUTAU, original/vanilla UTAU, or any specific OU distribution?
You can use any you wish. My voicebanks are currently optimized for OU, but the ONLY difference is the character.yaml file.

Why are there various settings listed in the Readme?
Usually, the instructions have a list of ideal Resamplers, Wavtools and Flags. Please, use them.

Can I use my own preffered settings instead?
No. I have tested and written these settings specifically to make the voicebanks sound as they should. Using any other setting will cause the voicebank to break or sound incorrectly.

Can I use Wordline-R?
No. Unless specified in any voicebank, these resamplers WILL cause the voicebanks to break and sound wrong.

Some Resamplers/Wavtools break certain voicebank...
Wavtool4vcv has resulted to be a good one for OpenUTAU in my voicebanks (if they happen to, somehow, eat all the consonants). In regular/vanilla UTAU, I think you can use whatever the Readme says.
Some Resampler/Wavtool combinations in classic/vanilla UTAU require to substitute R notes (Rest notes) with a question mark (?) instead. Otherwise they don't render it. I don't know why this happens, but in my experience, it has been what has happened.

Can I ignore the FLAGS or use my own?
No. Some FLAGS are specifically made to fit each voicebank's needs.
Unless specified in the Readme that you can experiment with FLAGS or explicitly said by me, please follow this rule.

Can I Plug & Play an UST file?
Uh... I don't recommend it, but do as you wish.

Wich OpenUTAU phonemizer do I use?
I usually recommend the Default one.
Mostly because the JA VCV & CVVC phonemizers, wich should be recommended, rarely work on my end, and I can't test or confirm that the aliases won't break. That's why the voicebanks usually include Romaji and Hiragana encoding.

Why isn't the Romaji/Hiragana of the voicebanks uniform?
As I've been gathering knowledge, I've changed the ways I alias my voicebanks to what my needs fit.
Some voicebanks I'd rather not touch until I released and finished my main works.

Your UTAU doesn't correctly read the Hiragana/Romaji aliases in OpenUTAU.
... If any of the responses above has not fixed your issue yet, try using the built-in VCV to CV / hiragana-romaji converters. If those still don't work, you can use OU's built-in tools to substitute the required phonemes... or use IroIro to batch-edit phonemes.

Your UTAU is... too smooth and I can't actually hear anything.
Try using different resampler/wavtool combination, different phonemizer, or reset all expression settings from the UST/USTx or whatever file extension you have.

Chance Reclist

What actually is it? I don't understand the purpose.
The Chance Reclist was created when OpenUTAU didn't even exist as an idea, it's from 2018 and I kept developing it.
It's purpose is being a multilingual reclist with the (somehow to this day) unique trait of being made to help Spanish UTAU users (from Spain) as a "middle point" or "begginer friendly" point to more complex languages and reclists. But that is the second main purpose. Actually, the first purpose, is to let the user have enough room to experiment with phonetics and create their own languages (conlangs).

... Is that the reason of why there was a sudden influx of "conlang" reclist that were reprints of each other?
If I had to guess, I'd say yes.
